The Unfamiliar Genre: Online Media Publishing.

http://www.i-mediapub.com
Do you want to create online video, audio for a broadcast, a non-fiction book, education or training materials, a CD-ROM, DVD, interactive activities, course or seminar materials, distance education materials, computer based testing, test banks, study guides, or text book supplements? The team at Interactive Media Publishing  (I-Media) can make it happen..http://www.youtube.com/my_video

I am a future student teacher here in Ann Arbor in English Language Arts. My area of expertise is Speech Communication, but I am qualified to teach Literature as well as writing composition. The focus of this web site is on the question of "text" many of my  students will come to define for themselves in and out of the classroom.

Online Media Publishing  as it currently stands, is a mixed bag involving aspects of journalism, analysis, research, more analysis, a lot of editing and an equal amount of hard work: but the task is well worth the effort.

The two links above are merely the beginning. Basically, this page, in particular is designed to be an adaptation of the strides my friends Cathy Fleischer and Sarah Andrew-Vaughan have already made with bringing the unfamiliar genre into the English Language and Literature Arts classroom. Of course I am referring to the demystification of language and the learning of language integration which makes writing and the creation of the "text' truly an art form where literacy is an attainable goal for any student with a voice and a desire to be heard.

Staying with the basic pattern of  reading and writing across the curriculum Cathy and Sarah have established, I propose a somewhat more comprehensive augmentative stance approaching a semi-consultant-like posture on the part of students studying a particular issue or problem of current relevance.

For example, in a recent blog entry I put forth this proposed model for containment of the sub-surface oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico:
Although on the surface, the idea may appear to be ridiculous, basically, it is  designed to get students thinking about "not" being ridiculous and using their collaborative efforts in research and analysis in using language to put forth their own solutions to the current problem. Incidentally, the above design comes from my understanding of the the sub-surface plumes of oil and the fact that the conical bottom shape, weighted along the perimeter and the concave shape atop this image are intended to trap and collect the spilled oil: preventing the plumes from being carried away by the sub-surface currents in the area.

Ultimately what I am after is to get students thinking in terms of taking the language of existing theories, analyzing those ideas currently in practice and improving on them by formulating their own well thought out and argued theories of knowledge and experience, and then publishing their findings for the Online Community in forms the students themselves are most comfortable with expressing.
